This plate by Pierre-Joseph Redouté shows the yellow rose Rosa hemisphaerica, also known as Rosa sulphurea. Two open blooms and a single bud are set out clearly, in the manner of a botanical study. The caption names the plant as Rosa Sulfurea, or Rosier jaune de soufre, and credits Redouté as painter, Langlois as engraver and the Imprimerie de Rémond as printer. The original is a watercolour by Redouté, who was a painter and botanist known for his watercolours of roses, lilies and other flowers.
On your wall: Its soft yellow bloom and clear botanical lines suit a calm sitting room, a study, a hallway or a bedroom, especially alongside natural wood and neutral tones.
