This is a 1920 advertising poster for Persil by Ludwig Hohlwein, titled in German as a question about a new woollen jacket. It is a lithograph with a fashion theme and people at its centre, and it was made as a small-format poster measuring 29.5 by 21.5 centimetres. Hohlwein was a German poster artist and a pioneer of the Sachplakat style. He trained and worked as an architect in Munich before turning to poster design. The work belongs to the wave of 1920s German advertising that combined everyday products with striking graphic art.
On your wall: It suits a kitchen, utility room, hallway or study where a touch of retro advertising character is welcome, especially in a home with vintage or 1920s-inspired decor.
