This is a poster from 1914 by Ludwig Hohlwein, made to present Kitty Starling, who is described in the title as a German-American eccentric dancer. It was produced as a photolithograph, printed by Oscar Consée, and stands about 124 cm tall and 90.8 cm wide, so it was designed to be seen at a glance. Hohlwein was a German poster artist and a pioneer of the Sachplakat style. Before turning to posters he trained and worked as an architect in Munich. Today the sheet belongs to the poster and graphic collection of the MK&G in Hamburg.
On your wall: Its vintage poster character suits a living room, study or hallway, and works especially well where you want a single striking piece with a sense of period.

Ludwig Hohlwein was a German poster artist who helped pioneer the Sachplakat style. He began his career as an architect, training and practising in Munich, before turning his attention to poster design. That move shaped the rest of his working life, and posters are what he is chiefly remembered for today.
