About this artwork

Akseli Gallen-Kallela painted this landscape in 1909, taking as his subject Mt. Donia Sabuk. The view brings together a mountain, trees and a stretch of rural country. It is worked in oil paint on a panel, and the work belongs to the Finnish National Gallery, where it is held at the Ateneum. Gallen-Kallela is known as a leading Finnish painter around the turn of the twentieth century, and here he turns his attention to a quiet, open scene of land and hills.

On your wall: Its landscape subject suits living rooms, studies and hallways, where a view of mountain and countryside can add a calm, natural note.
