Painted in 1882 by Arkhip Kuindzhi, this landscape looks towards two of Moscow's best-known landmarks: the Kremlin and St Basil's Cathedral. Kuindzhi was a Russian landscape painter, and here he brings that eye for the outdoors to a city view. The title also mentions a bridge, which suggests the scene is taken in from a vantage point near the water. The painting belongs to the State Russian Museum in St Petersburg, where it has been shown in an exhibition of Kuindzhi's work titled "Illusion of Light".
On your wall: It would suit a study, living room or hallway where a calm, atmospheric city view can bring a sense of place and history.
