Painted in 1888 by Vincent van Gogh, this landscape looks across a field of wheat towards the Alpilles, the low mountain range in the distance. A house sits within the scene, giving the open farmland a human touch. Van Gogh worked in oil paint on canvas, and the Van Gogh Museum now holds the painting. It belongs to the period when he produced most of his oil paintings, in just over a decade of work marked by bold colour and expressive brushwork. The subject is simple and rural: crops, land, hills and sky.
On your wall: Its wheat fields and distant hills suit living rooms, dining areas and hallways, particularly where you want a calm, natural landscape to bring the countryside indoors.
