About this artwork

Two crows perch on a single branch while a full moon hangs behind them. Ohara Koson made this colour woodblock print in 1927, and it was published in Tokyo by Watanabe Shôzaburô. Koson was a Japanese painter and print designer working in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, closely associated with the shinsaku-hanga and shin-hanga movements. The image measures 365 by 239 millimetres and is printed on paper. It is now part of the Rijksmuseum's collection in Amsterdam, where it arrived as a gift in 1999 from J. Perrée of Eindhoven.

On your wall: Its calm nocturnal subject and upright format suit a bedroom, study or hallway, particularly in restrained, minimal interiors where a single bird scene can stand alone.
