Julius Klinger, 1906

This is a poster for Palm cigars, designed by Julius Klinger in 1906. Klinger worked as a painter, draftsman, illustrator and commercial graphic artist, and he was also a typographer, so it is no surprise to find his hand in a piece of advertising like this. The title, Plakat, Palm 06, simply names it as a poster, with the year closing the name. It belongs among early tobacco advertising posters from Germany, and it gives a clear sense of how products were promoted at the start of the twentieth century.
On your wall: It would suit a study, a den, a bar corner or a hallway where retro advertising graphics and a touch of period character are welcome.
