This 1906 painting by Francis Picabia shows Notre-Dame de Paris, as the title tells us, at the start of the day. It is a landscape, and it belongs to the Paris of that year. Picabia is best known as a French avant-garde painter, writer, filmmaker and poet closely linked with Dada, so it is interesting to meet him here with a view of one of the city's most familiar buildings.
On your wall: A Paris cathedral scene suits a hallway, study or living room, especially where you like a calm view of the city with a modern artistic voice.

Francis Picabia was a French avant-garde artist whose work crossed many fields. He painted, wrote poetry, made films, published a magazine and worked with typography. He is closely associated with Dada, the movement that shaped much of his outlook, and his restless, varied output reflects the experimental spirit of that circle.
