About this artwork

Thomas Moran painted this landscape in 1867 in oil on canvas. It looks across a lake framed by trees, with mountains rising beyond, and the places named in connection with it are Bellagio and Lierna. The work is also catalogued under the title Lierna, which points to the village on the shore as its starting point. Moran was an American painter of the Hudson River School, and here the tradition of landscape painting is turned towards a European lake. Today the painting is held in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

On your wall: Its lake, trees and mountains suit a calm living room, study or bedroom, where a landscape can bring a sense of open space to the wall.
