Paul Klee painted Geöffneter Berg in 1914, working in watercolour. The title, which means 'Opened Mountain' in English, points to a landscape idea, though the work is better approached as an abstract composition than a literal view. Klee was a Swiss-born German artist whose individual style drew on expressionism, cubism and surrealism. This piece belongs to his output from 1914, and it suits slow, attentive looking, where shapes and colour can be taken in at your own pace.
On your wall: Its modern, abstract character suits living rooms, studies and calm hallways where a considered, contemporary piece can reward a second look.

Paul Klee was a Swiss-born German artist whose style was entirely his own. Over his career he drew on several movements, including expressionism, cubism and surrealism, and blended these influences into work that remains unmistakably his. For a Swiss customer, there is something pleasing in seeing a compatriot's imagination so distinctively at play.
