Painted in 1893, this work by Camille Pissarro takes an apple tree in a meadow at Eragny as its subject. It is worked in oil paint on canvas, and the tree is the focus of the view, set within open grass. Pissarro was a leading figure among the Impressionists, and later worked alongside Seurat and Signac when he explored the Neo-Impressionist approach. The painting is now in the collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
On your wall: Its gentle countryside subject suits living rooms, studies and bedrooms, and brings a calm, natural note to spaces where you want a sense of the outdoors.

Camille Pissarro was a Danish-French painter, born on the island of Saint Thomas, who contributed to both Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. He learned from earlier masters such as Gustave Courbet and Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot. At 54 he took up the Neo-Impressionist style, studying and working alongside Georges Seurat and Paul Signac.
