About this artwork

Painted in 1918 in oil on canvas, this landscape shows Zoroaster Peak in the Grand Canyon, Arizona. Thomas Moran, an American painter of the Hudson River School, was known for landscapes that often turned to the mountains of the American West. This work is now in the collection of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. The title points the viewer to the canyon's towering rock formations, and the subject invites a long, unhurried look.

On your wall: A canyon landscape like this suits a study, living room or hallway, where its sense of open space and rugged scenery can hold a wall.
