About this artwork

This is Plate 14 from Audubon's Birds of America, a hand-coloured engraving of two Prairie Warblers, one male and one female, perched on buffalo grass. The original plate lettering is still part of the image. The Birds of America was engraved in Scotland and England and published between 1827 and 1838, as part of Audubon's plan to record every bird species of North America in pictures. Five volumes of text, the Ornithological Biography, accompanied the plates. This plate belongs to that wider project and shows his close attention to the birds and the plants they perch on.

On your wall: Its fine detail and natural subject suit a study, hallway, reading corner or bedroom, especially where botanical and ornithological prints are already hung together.
