This is an abstract composition in watercolour and India ink on paper. Dark, swirling black lines move across the sheet, while patches of blue, yellow, red and green sit among them. The artist's monogram appears at the lower left, together with the date. The original is held in the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. Kandinsky is generally credited as one of the pioneers of abstraction in Western art, and this work shows how line and colour can carry a picture without any recognisable subject.
On your wall: Its bright patches of colour and energetic black lines would bring life to a living room, study or hallway, and sit well in modern, uncluttered interiors.

Wassily Kandinsky was a Russian painter and art theorist, born in Moscow. He came to painting relatively late, beginning his studies at thirty. He went on to work in Germany during the late Belle Époque and the interwar years, and is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of abstraction in Western art.
