Charles Demuth's 1921 painting looks along a narrow Paris street. Tall, pale buildings rise on either side, and the light falls across them in angular planes that give the scene a crisp, almost architectural structure. Fragments of shop signs, among them 'HOTEL' and 'TABAC', appear within the composition and hint at the everyday life of the street. The clean lines and precise geometry place it within Precisionism, the style Demuth developed. The title refers to a street in Paris and to a collection in Chicago.
On your wall: Its pale tones and crisp geometry suit modern living rooms, studies and hallways, especially where clean lines and a quiet, graphic accent are wanted.

Charles Henry Buckius Demuth was an American painter best known for his watercolours. Later in his career he turned to oils, and in them he helped shape the style called Precisionism. Amelia's customers who enjoy clean, carefully ordered pictures may find his approach worth exploring, and it rewards a closer look.
