Ambrosius Bosschaert

Ambrosius Bosschaert the Elder was a Flemish-born Dutch painter of still lifes who also worked as an art dealer. He is regarded as one of the first artists to treat floral still life as a genre in its own right. He founded a family of painters who carried on his flower and fruit painting, helping make Middelburg the Dutch Republic's leading centre for flower painting.
